During our MICF adventures, the GF and I went to FanFiction Comedy, an hour-long laugh-fest during which four young Kiwi comedians and invited guests wrote and read out their fan fiction offerings to a rather fannish audience.

On the night we attended, we had:

An Australian AU of the Babysitters Club, featuring Crystal, Sophie and Stacey, by Kate McLennan

The Famous Five grew up (all the way to the nursing home), by Heidi O'Loughlin

Entourage RPF by a random Kiwi boy (Joseph Moore)

A smidgeon of supposedly "Paranormal Activity" fic by the other random Kiwi boy (Tom Furniss), and

The most entirely awesome fic of the night, the Grand Designs/Bob the Builder (Kevin McCloud/Wendy) crossover, featuring cameo appearances by Postman Pat, Bananas in Pyjamas, Playschool, and the Teletubbies. Rated R. I'm tweeting at Cal Wilson (the author) until she agrees to post it.

IF YOU ARE IN MELBOURNE -- you REALLY ought to go see their show, because it is honestly awesome, even if the incredibly awesome Rose thinks that ff.net is "the place to go" for fic. (I was sitting in the front row muttering "pit of voles, pit of voles". The girl next to me (that wasn't my GF, she was on my other side) laughed and nodded.

In preparation for NaNoWriMo (five and half hours away...) I have finally finished posting the Returning Saga (so far) to the AO3.

For those unaware of The Saga, I started it back in 1999, as a "homecoming" story. Seriously, it's an entire sub-genre of Voy fiction. "Returning" is very long, with individual parts for all the main crewmembers (plus my OFC), as well as three parts at the beginning and a projected three at the end (a total of sixteen chapters overall). At heart, it's a J/C fic, although there are various other pairings as well. There's romance, adventure, conspiracy, legal argument, and plenty to keep you interested.

It's fabulous (to me) to note that the Story So Far is over 100,000 words long at this point. With somewhere between a third to a half of the story written and posted, I don't think there's going to be a problem with having enough material for 50,000 words during NaNo. I've got the first two parts all blocked out. The third - Kit's - is causing me a little more difficulty so far. Of course it would.

Anyway, I need to go and work on dinner. I have many thoughts on the impendingness of NaNo and may well be back with more wordiness soon.

Title: La Clemenza di Caterina
Fandom: Star Trek: Voyager
Pairing: Janeway/Chakotay
Originally written and posted: May – July 1999
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: Star Trek belongs to Paramount, McBride is an OC.

Notes: Acknowledgments to WA Mozart and Pietro Metastasio for the original, and to Rosamund Illing who sang the role of Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) in Melbourne, May 1999, in a way that reminded me so totally of Kathryn Janeway, and inspired this effort. (Never mind that Chakotay is cast as Vitellia in this version – it wouldn’t have worked any other way).. This story takes place in an alternate universe similar to the one in TOS 'Mirror, Mirror', but even more like that in Diane Duane’s TNG novel Dark Mirror.

La Clemenza di Caterina - An 'opera' in two acts, with Prologue and Epilogue )
